Pegfinity Gadgets Tier List
A portal is S-tier with Cactus and C-tier without. Baskets stay skippable.
Gadgets cheat physics. They also cheat your wallet if you buy them as decorations. Steam players already opened a thread asking whether extra balls, gumball, and portal are actually bad. The answer depends on feeders. This list therefore grades each gadget twice: with a special peg engine, and without. How to play the toys is on gadgets. Pairings are on synergies.
S-tier with a feeder, A without a plan to get one
Portal. Recatches balls. With Cactus or UFO it is the Next Fest highlight loop. Without a feeder it is a moving hole that still leaks at the edges. Buy width later.
Laser. Chains. With UFO or dense pegs it can look idle. Without pegs it is a pointer. Patch 1.4 added juice to the chain, not a reason to buy it first.
A-tier
Pinball bumper. Shove plus score, stronger after 1.4. A feeder that keeps Hypemeter warm. Honest gadget.
Cannon. Extra ball into a rich field. Extra ball into a desert is C-tier in disguise.
B-tier
Gumball machine, after an engine exists. Chaos that can add objects or add trash. Completion paths can skip it. Screenshot paths can buy it.
Portal width / extra catch gadgets. Only after the base portal already recatches a ball you like.
C-tier
Basket and bin branches. Catch more balls, earn more from slots. Launch reviews say the investment is absurdly low value. Early Pegfinity fails because boards do not hit, not because baskets miss. Skip until overflow is a real screenshot, not a fear.
Extra-ball chance nodes with no density. Same dilution story as the ball tier list.
Auto-related fantasies. There is still no tree gadget that fires while you AFK. Patch 1.2.3 auto-launches only at max charge. Charge during the cascade, per controls.
How to read a Steam tooltip
If the text says catch, bin, basket, or slot payout, assume C until your board overflows. If it says beam, chain, return, bumper, or extra hit, assume A or S once a peg can wake it. If it says more ball types, open the ball list before you click.
Suggested buy window
- Pegs and Hypemeter.
- Cactus or Firework.
- Portal or bumper.
- Laser or UFO, not both until cash is cheap unless you want the idle screenshot.
- Gumball as dessert.
- Baskets never, or last.
That window is also the backbone of progression. If a gadget feels bad, you probably bought it at step 0. Refund the plan, not the game, until you have tried it with a feeder. If it still feels bad with a feeder, then it is actually C-tier and you can skip in peace.
Baskets remain the common first mistake. They look like gadgets because they sit in the same shop. They are catchers. Buy them last, or never, unless extra balls are literally overflowing the bottom of the board. That overflow is a late screenshot, not an early fear. The progression walkthrough never asks you to max bins. If a tooltip only promises a fatter catch, treat it as furniture until the playfield is already loud.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.
Is portal good or bad?
Good with Cactus or UFO, bad as a first gadget. See how to use gadgets for the loop.
Should I buy basket upgrades?
Skip them on a completion path. Steam reviews treat bins as a trap. Overflow catching is a late luxury.
Where is the auto-launcher?
Not a shop gadget. 1.2.3 auto-fires at max charge only. Use controls to charge without staring.
Is gumball worth it?
After an engine, maybe. Before an engine, no. It is dessert, not dinner.
