Upgrade Order Planner

Use this planner as a clipboard next to the skill tree. It matches the progression walkthrough and the upgrade tier list. If a node is not on the list, it is optional comedy. If a price looks ten times too high, leave the planner and open known issues.

Buy first — tempo nodes

  1. Peg value (every bounce pays).
  2. Extra pegs / density (every bounce has somewhere to land).
  3. Hypemeter (combos survive between balls).
  4. Cactus (spines, extra hits, portal food).

Stop and play. Do not stand on the tree for ten minutes. Cash out when the next item is in range. Aim using controls so the meter does not eat the session.

Buy second — specials

  1. Firework or Frog, whichever the tree offers cheaper.
  2. UFO once density is real.
  3. Thermometer if the board is already crowded.
  4. Chicken only if your queue still looks clean. If income dropped after a ball unlock, skip — see balls.

How the chain gates: special pegs.

Buy third — feeders

  1. Portal or pinball bumper.
  2. Laser if UFO or density can feed it.
  3. Cannon after the field is rich.
  4. Portal width only after recatches already happen.

Loops: gadgets and synergies.

Buy later or never

  • Basket / bin branches: skip for completion.
  • Gumball machine: dessert.
  • Extra weak ball types: test one, then stop if cash fell.
  • Max combo percent nodes players already called disappointing: after collisions exist, or never.
  • Graveyard: buy it as a late peg. The 90 million extra zero was fixed in 1.2.1 — patch notes.
  • Auto-launcher tree node: still not a shop item. 1.2.3 only auto-fires at max charge.

How to tick this without a spreadsheet

After each purchase, ask one question: did the last run create more hits? If yes, continue down the list. If no, you bought dilution or a catcher. Skip sideways. Pegfinity allows skipping; the demo even advertised it. You are not breaking the game by leaving C-tier on the table.

If two listed nodes are available, take the cheaper S-tier. If only C-tier is affordable, play another run instead of buying a trap just to click something. That habit is how the three-run grind feels designed. It is often self-inflicted.

When to stop using the planner

When the board already looks illegal and you are buying for jokes, you are done. Finish achievements if you care about the 26 badges. Otherwise close the wiki and launch. The planner is for the stall in the middle, not for the encore.

New players who landed here first: read How to Play in the same sitting. A buy list does not teach the power meter.

If two listed nodes cost the same, take the one that creates hits. If the only affordable node is a basket, play another run instead of buying a trap just to click something. That habit is how the three-run grind feels designed. It is often self-inflicted. Pair this list with synergy recipes the moment Cactus exists, and with known issues before Graveyard. The planner is a clipboard, not a speedrun bible. Random boards still swing.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after the Steam launch.

What is the first Pegfinity upgrade to buy?

Peg value or density, then Hypemeter, then Cactus. Baskets are not on this list on purpose.

Can I skip items on the planner?

Yes. Skipping is intended. Skip anything in the later-or-never section, and skip Chicken if the queue got worse.

Where do synergies fit?

After step 4. Pair cactus with portal using synergy recipes instead of buying random extra balls.

Why is Graveyard not numbered?

1.2.1 fixed the ten-times price. Buy it as a late peg. If you still see 90 million, verify the build via patch notes.
